Boat trip from Jena to Dornburg

🚣‍♀️ Paddle into Adventure – Rubber Boat Trip on the Saale!

Join us together with the JSMC Summer School participants for an unforgettable journey down the beautiful Saale river! Starting in the heart of Jena, we'll drift past lush riverbanks, rolling hills, and the majestic Dornburg castles perched high above the valley. You’ll team up with 8-10 fellow adventurers in a shared rubber boat for a scenic 16 km one-way paddle. Along the route, we’ll take relaxed breaks - including a stop at the Porstendorfer See with a cozy snack bar and beer garden to recharge. After reaching Dornburg, we’ll hop on the train back to Jena - train tickets are included and arranged by the boat company.

Meeting point - option 1:
Meet with Sarah at 8:30 am at Neugasse 23 in front of the JSMC building and walk together to the water access point at Griesbrücke (approx. 30 min walk).

Meeting point - option 2:
Directly come to the water access point at Griesbrücke/Am Gries, 07749 Jena.
We will be leaving at 9 am sharp, so be there a bit ahead of time!

Bring along:
- water and snacks/food
- sunscreen & maybe some head covering
- weather-appropriate clothing
- maybe a towl & a change of clothes
- shoes that can get wet & maybe a dry pair for later
- swimwear (optional!)
- cash (if you'd like to grab a bite or drink at the beer garden)

Please note!
Lifejackets will be provided and it will be MANDATORY to wear them! (You don't need to know how to swim.)
Waterproofed containers for valuables will also be provided for the group.
There will be a safety briefing on-site in German, but you can watch a video here beforehand with English subtitles (8 min).
