IMPRS course: Introduction to statistics and R

Dr. Grit Kunert, MPI-CE

Online

JSMC members will have the opportunity to particiapte in the IMPRS statics and R-course again. From 25. - 29.4. Dr. Grit Kunert will give a 5-half-day beginners course in basic statistics with an introduction into R either in person at the institute or via Zoom depending on the situation.

The course will mainly cover the basics in statistics and  important methods for comparing groups:
1. descriptive statistics (characteristic values: averages, variability)
2. comparison of 1 or 2 means
3. comparison of more than 2 means – ANOVA
4. regression
5. ANCOVA .

The course will be a combination of lecture (for the theory) and practical work. In the practical part she will give an introduction into R and you will learn how to do the tests in R. You don't have to have previous knowledge about statistics or R.
The course will take place daily in the mornings from 9 am to about 1 pm. In case it will be an online-course via Zoom you need a stable internet connection. You also need to be able to talk (not only to write in the chat). Video (webcam) would be very nice but is not really necessary.

Please drop Grit Kunert (gkunert@ice.mpg.de) a line until Friday 25.2. if you want to attend the course (and add that your are member of the JSMC). Please only apply if you are able to attend all the days. Mid March she will let you know whether you can participate (in case there are more applications than places), and give the ones who participate further instructions
