Microbial Communication Colloquium (MiCoCo): Christian Kost

Prof. Christian Kost

Great Lecture Hall, Erbertstr. 1, 07743 Jena

We are pleased to invite the JSMC community to the upcoming MiCoCo featuring Prof. Christian Kost from the University of Osnabrück, who will give a talk on

Evolution of Metabolic Cooperation within Microbial Communities

Prof. Kost has been Professor of Ecology at the University of Osnabrück since 2016. His research focuses on The evolution and ecology of microbial cooperation, Metabolic cross-feeding and microbial interaction networks, and multicellular behavior in bacteria. In his MiCoCo talk, Prof. Kost will explore how microbial communities rely on cooperative interactions to use resources efficiently and to form stable associations. He will discuss the evolutionary origins and stability of metabolic cooperation and demonstrate how ecological conditions and spatial structure influence the emergence and maintenance of cooperative traits in microbial populations.

Following the scientific talk, up to nine JSMC members (PhDs, postdocs, and professors) are invited to join a networking dinner with Prof. Kost at the restaurant 'Zur Noll'. The event aims to foster scientific exchange and collaboration among early-career researchers, professors, and scientists from different institutes in Jena and beyond. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with Prof. Kost and colleagues in an informal setting, discuss shared interests, and explore ideas for future cooperation.

Please register by email to the JSMC speakers to attend the networking dinner. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
