Science Meets Society Roundtable - The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

Location will be provided upon registration

We would like to bring interested colleagues together for a "Science Meets Society Roundtable" to discuss topics of ethics, equity and inclusion in science, and the role that our work plays in society. We plan this as a regular event around four times a year, each with a different topical focus.

For our first event, we plan to discuss the book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot (https://rebeccaskloot.com/the-immortal-life/about-the-book/ ). This is the story of the life, death and legacy of a Black woman whose cells were taken without her permission and used to create the first immortal cell line (HeLa cells). Many of us have worked with the cells in the laboratory without knowing the back story, or have benefited from the resulting research outcomes.

The discussion will take place on
Thursday November 10th
starting at 16:30
